In light of the success Valve is seeing with the Steam Deck, the company has kicked off 2023 with a warning to potential buyers to only buy the Steam Deck through official sources.
For those in the US, Canada, EU and UK, this means buying the Steam Deck directly through Steam. Potential buyers from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, on the other hand, are encouraged to buy from Valve’s retail partner Komodo.
The company goes on to warn buyers against picking up a Steam Deck sold through third-party retailers, as they aren’t official partners of Valve, and pose a potential for fraud.
In response, several Twitter users have replied to the post pointing out how there is still no way official way to buy a Steam Deck in several regions all over the world. This includes larger markets like Latin America and Australia.
Valve engineers recently revealed in light of the Steam Deck’s success that the company would like to take another shot at designing a new Steam Controller.
Hello, and happy new year! A quick note that the only official ways to purchase Steam Deck are directly from Steam (in the US, CA, EU, and UK), or from Komodo (JP, KR, TW, and HK). Steam Decks sold via any other websites or retailers are unofficial – please be careful. pic.twitter.com/hawVka9MLP
