Assassin’s Creed Mirage is promising a much denser and more compact experience than its predecessors, and with its promise of a more classic-style Assassin’s Creed experience, it’s also going back to a single-city setting. Set in 9th century Baghdad, the upcoming open world title’s choice of setting has got plenty of series fans excited, and in a newly released (and final) behind-the-scenes video, the game’s development team has dropped new details on what we can expect from Mirage’s recreation of the city.

The city of Baghdad will have four major districts, each with their own unique flavour and aesthetic. The Abbasiyah district is the city’s cultural hub and a gathering place for scholars and scholars; Karkh is the market district where large crowds gather to buy and sell goods from all around the world; Harbiyah is the city’s industrial district, and is described as a “dense and grimy” part of Baghdad where you’ll find slavers, orphans, and criminals in abundance; and finally, the Round City is the seat of power in the region, a lush and beautiful district surrounded by walls.

The video also talks about the process of maintaining authenticity, and how Ubisoft went about that, from consulting with experts and historians to conducting extensive research of their own. Meanwhile, some of Baghdad’s key historical figures from the 9th century will also have a role to play in the game, as is usually the case with Assassin’s Creed and its historical settings. That will include the genius inventors known as the Banu Musa, who will be putting that knowledge to use to help Basim and the Hidden Ones.

Additionally, players will also be able to seek out short, narrative-driven side quests known as Tales of Baghdad, which will revolve around key cultural aspects from the time period, including astronomy and literature. And of course, those who want to dive into the setting and its historical details further will also be able to make use of the new History of Baghdad feature.

Beyond Baghdad itself, players will also be able to explore diverse locations surrounding the city, which will include a variety of biomes, which will also include the fortress of Alamut, the home base of the Hidden Ones. Check out the video below for more details.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches on October 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A new trailer for the game will also premier next week at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
