Studio design director at Obsidian Josh Sawyer has revealed that the studio currently has no plans to make a follow up title to last year’s narrative adventure game Pentiment. Responding to a question on his personal Tumblr page about plans for a spiritual sequel to Pentiment, Sawyer responded by saying that he has no plans to work on any sort of sequel.
When asked whether a potential sequel to Pentiment would be called Palimpsest, Sawyer revealed that Palimpsest was the original non-working title for the game.
“The original non-working title of Pentiment actually was Palimpsest,” said Sawyer. “Microsoft legal sensed potential difficulty with securing that name so I renamed it to Pentiment.”
“And no, I have no plans to make any sort of sequel, spiritual or otherwise, for Pentiment,” he continued. “I always intended it as a stand alone story. It may inspire ideas (hopefully not just for me!) in the future, but I’m happy with where we’ve left it.”
Originally released back in November, Pentiment takes place in 16th century Bavaria. The game puts players into the shoes of artist Andreas Maler in the midst of the world being in social unrest. Interestingly, alongside the game’s release, Sawyer had also released a recommended reading list to get players ready for Pentiment.
