How to locate the Rebreather in Sons of the Forest
Reaching the Entrance to the Cave
- To begin your search for the Rebreather, you’ll first need to locate the cave, which is indicated on the GPS tracker map above. It’s situated in the northern part of the island, and you can find it on the larger map below. Use the middle mouse button to zoom in and out of the map, allowing you to get a better sense of your location if you’re far away from the beach.
- In some instances, you may spawn near the cave by the ocean when starting a new game. To identify this specific cave, search for a location on the beach where people have been impaled on the shoreline. From there, head towards the forest, and you’ll eventually spot an alcove with yellow cans positioned outside. If you approach the beach from a different direction, look for the point where the beach and water meet, and you’ll see the yellow cans floating in the water. Zooming in on your map can also help you locate the entrance more accurately.
- The entrance will be covered up, so grab your axe and break the boards to get in. Press E to squeeze through, and then let’s start exploring this cave!
After Entering the Cave
- Once you’re inside, it will be quite dark, except for some spots that are lit up by small lights. You can use your lighter by pressing L, but we suggest making a torch with a stick and a cloth to brighten up a larger area. To do that, you need to find those items first, so keep an eye out for them before heading deeper into the cave.
- While exploring, keep an eye out for illuminated areas where you can find flares, ammo, and an air tank needed for the rebreather that you’ll acquire shortly.
- If you look around this area, you’ll come across a body next to a newspaper clipping, as well as some other resources to gather. Keep going deeper into the cave until you reach the part that’s lit up in blue. You’ll see another small light showing you the direction you need to follow.
- You’ll have to crouch in order to get to the next part of the cave.
- To progress, simply continue along the straight path, and you’ll soon arrive at another room with some lighting and a floating rubber ring. Move past this area until you come across two enemies – these will be the first ones you encounter in this cave.
- If you’re not ready to fight, no worries, you can simply run past these enemies. After passing them, the path will divide into two directions, so make sure you take the left path if you plan to run, as that will lead you to the rebreather.
Note: Another option is to take the path on the right, which you may want to explore before going left. At the end of this path, you’ll come across a Stun Gun on a body hanging from the cave’s ceiling. Keep in mind that there are many enemies along this route, so be careful.
After Taking the Left Path
- This path is straightforward, so keep moving in the only available direction. You’ll know you’re going the right way when you spot numerous life vests floating in the water. This will be just before you reach a room.
- Once you arrive here, head towards the right and crouch to enter the next part of the cave. Follow the tunnel until you reach the room illuminated in blue – this is where you’ll find the rebreather.
- Once you reach down below, you’ll notice a light and numerous limbs scattered on the path. First, head towards the left, but be mindful of the risk of falling into the water. You can find plenty of resources in this area, including the limbs which can be consumed. This also gives you a clue about what’s in the water – which is a huge shark. Therefore, if you value your life, it’s advisable to avoid entering the water at all costs. Return to the beginning of the path and take the route to the right.
- Follow the narrow path that will lead you to the location where you can find essential resources along with the Rebreather. Once you have it, equip the Rebreather and dive into the water to test it out and make your way out of the cave.
