A Plague Tale: Requiem is going to be quite a meaty experience. Like its predecessor, it will, of course, be a linear, focused experience (though it’s expanding in several areas, including with larger environments), but where its runtime is concerned, it’s going to be a much longer game.

Speaking in an interview with PLAY magazine in issue #19 (via MP1st), the game’s lead level designer Kevin Pinson confirmed that A Plague Tale: Requiem will be roughly 15-18 hours long. Its predecessor, A Plague Tale: Innocence could be wrapped up in around 9-10 hours, so that’s quite a jump.

Pinson also explained that more than length and runtime, developer Asobo Studio has focused first and foremost on the game’s pacing, in order to ensure that it has no filler content and isn’t unnecessarily padded out.

“It’s about pacing, there’s no filler, there’s no trying to make it longer because we needed to,” he said. “Our publisher Focus Entertainment encourages us to do the length that we want to do for the game for the story we want to tell. So we’re not aiming for a specific amount of hours. This is not something that we take into account when we first design the game. We are a small team of 70 people so we have to be really drastic about our choices.”

A Plague Tale: Requiem recently went gold, and is set to launch on October 18 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and for the Nintendo Switch as a cloud-exclusive title. The game will also be available via Game Pass at launch.
